SAVE THE DATE: A Preference for Equality: Which Electoral Reform Options Support Women’s Equality and Greater Diversity?
Please reserve Tuesday, September 20, 2016, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to join the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women and the PEI Coalition for Women in Government for a workshop on gender, diversity, and the way we vote.
Five electoral models have been proposed for PEI, and Island voters will have a chance to rank their preferences in a plebiscite vote. (Find out more from Elections PEI at yourchoicepei.ca.) But which of the options hold the most promise to support greater gender equality, diversity, and inclusion in PEI’s political system?
The workshop will be an interactive, participatory analysis of the possible effects of the five electoral options. The event will take place at St. Peter’s Cathedral Hall at the corner of Rochford Street and Fitzroy Street.
No tickets required, however we would like anyone planning to attend to register. Please call or email: 902-368-4510 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Both the Advisory Council on the Status of Women and the Coalition for Women in Government are members of the Coalition for Proportional Representation (peipr.ca), so expect to learn more about the proportional representation options in the election and why proportional representation is often considered a best practice for electing more women and what it would take to make any of the five proposed models more inclusive.
