During the February Council meeting held in Charlottetown, three members were presented with ACSW Service Awards. With much love and appreciation for all they have contributed to the work of the Status of Women over the past five years, members and staff bid farewell to Kelly Robinson of Stratford and Louise MacLeod of Uigg.
Kelly’s leadership and breadth of skills were especially appreciated in her roles as Vice-Chair and Chairperson of the Council. Louise’s joyful curiosity and clarity on issues of justice and equity for Island women was always apparent. Staffperson Becky Tramley was recognized with a 30 year Service Award, and appreciated for not leaving Council but continuing her commitment to advancing the status of women on PEI.
For more details about the wonderful qualities and contributions of each woman, please read the individual awards below.
Service Award – The PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women thanks Kelly Robinson
Kelly Robinson of Stratford has served on the PEI ACSW since 2011. She was appointed Vice-Chairperson in 2013 and Chairperson in 2015, the Council’s 17th Chairperson since 1975. Kelly took on Council leadership with great energy and passion at a time of grief after Diane Kays’s death. Kelly began on the Advisory Council as a youthful voice for contemporary feminism who was also experienced as an advocate and front-line worker. Her talent for research and writing in plain language led to special projects such as an access to justice forum, updates to Moving On, and research on sexual and reproductive health services. Council members learned much from Kelly’s sensitivity to survivors of violence, to children, to people with intellectual challenges and invisible disabilities, and to animals.
Thank you, Kelly, for your compassionate leadership in helping the Advisory Council advance the status of women in PEI.
Service Award – The PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women thanks Louise MacLeod
Louise MacLeod of Uigg has served on the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women since 2011. A nurse, a farm woman, a mother and foster mother, an active Women’s Institute member and church worker, and a tireless community volunteer: these roles only start to sum up Louise. The Advisory Council has been very fortunate to have her as a member. Louise is often the first to arrive at meetings, the first to volunteer for tasks, and the first to respond to requests. She loves to learn, and when Louise learns of inequality, she is quick to act to create a more equitable world, for women and for all. Louise has been an invaluable support to staff members and to Isabelle Christian, Diane Kays, and Kelly Robinson during their time as Chairpersons.
Thank you, Louise, for your kind, wise, enthusiastic leadership in helping the PEIACSW advance the status of women in PEI.
Service Award – The PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women thanks Becky Tramley – 30 Years Service
Becky Tramley began work with the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women in October 1986. With 30 years of dedicated service as an office administrator and office manager, Becky knows more about the Advisory Council than anyone else ever has or probably ever will. She has contributed her institutional knowledge, her attention to detail, and her commitment to a job well done to everything the Council has accomplished over 30 years. Council Chairpersons, Council members, and staff co-workers have all benefited from her attentive care. She remembers everyone’s special needs and interests and goes the extra mile for others’ comfort and happiness.
Thank you, Becky, for being the heart of PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women office for 30 years.
