NEW LISTINGS

1.  Health PEI Seeks Applications for Board Memberships

The Health PEI Board is one of the most essential boards in Prince Edward Island. It needs women and allies who are knowledgeable and passionately committed to women’s health to put their names forward.

“Responsibility for the delivery of all Prince Edward Island health services was transferred to Health PEI and its Board of Directors on July 6, 2010… The Board of Directors oversees operations, works with management to establish overall strategic direction for the organization and ensures appropriate community consultation.  The board also regularly reviews the organization’s long-term plans, significant issues affecting the organization and evaluates results.”

Currently, only 4 of the 11 appointed members of the Board of Directors are women. According to figures provided for the 2011 Equality Report Card, 85% of Health PEI’s workforce and 78% of managers are women.

Get all the details of how to apply here:

http://www.healthpei.ca/boardrecruitment. The deadline for applications is January 11, 2013.

2.  Request for Proposals

The Interministerial Women’s Secretariat is issuing a request for proposals for project funding for community organizations in Prince Edward Island. This year’s focus is on the following three themes:

1. Social Media and girls – cybersafety

2. Women and girls with a disability

3. Engaging male and female youth (grades K-12)

 a. to reduce and prevent gender-based violence; and/or

 b. to promote gender equality

Preference will be made to projects that address the three focus themes.  For more information and to see grant guidelines, please contact the Interministerial Women’s Secretariat at (902) 368-6494 or email tmurnaghan@gov.pe.ca.  Applications and proposals must be received by January 25, 2013.

3. Getting Beyond the Headlines: Women in the News

A workshop for you to dig into local news with gender in mind.

January 29, 2013, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm (storm date February 5, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm)

Grafton Room, Rodd Charlottetown Hotel, Kent Street

Facilitator: Jane Ledwell, PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women

Recent research for the PEI Coalition for Women in Government showed that women make up just a quarter of mentions in local print news and editorials. But beyond the numbers, what does that coverage say about women? What words and images are used – or not used – to describe women’s leadership? Go beyond the headlines and get under the statistics in a fun, interactive workshop looking at news and opinion from a variety of media.

Help shape recommendations to better highlight women’s leadership in news and media. Women and men welcome. No admission. Bring your curiosity, your red pen, or an example or two of media reports that tell you something about gender dynamics.
