1. PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women Election 2011 Resources
Services for mental health and addictions, access to the justice system, poverty elimination, and preventing violence against women and children: these are issues that Diane Kays, the new Chairperson of the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women encourages women to ask candidates about during this fall’s Prince Edward Island election campaign.

The first, “Equality Matters,” looks at key issues in the election.
The second, “Women and the 2011 Election” talks about why women’s involvement in the political process is so important.
Election promises bring potential for renewal. Diane Kays says, “It’s a crucial opportunity, it’s a great opportunity to do things well.” The Advisory Council on the Status of Women encourages Islanders to look at the Equality Matters election guide and to ask campaigning politicians questions about women’s equality issues.

5. BONSHAW CEILIDH September 25th- Benefit for PEI Hospice Association
Bonshaw’s next Ceilidh is Sunday evening September 25th from 7-9 at the Bonshaw Hall.

6. Charity Law Workshops in Charlottetown, September 30, 2011
Governance, Corporate Law Changes and CRA’s Fundraising Guidance (3 hours) The 2011 Federal Budget included a number of proposals that will affect charities. Join charity lawyer Richard Bridge and receive an update on the new Canada Not-For-Profit Corporations Act and learn how you can prepare for the changes it will require. In addition, Richard will be reviewing
Canada Revenue Agency’s Fundraising Guidance, provide an update on proposed changes to the Guidance, and address key compliance and standards issues in fundraising.
You will learn about:
• key provisions of the recent federal budget dealing with charities;
• how the Canada Not-For-Profit Corporations Act applies to your charity;
• CRA’s rules on appropriate allocation of fundraising expenses;
• new transparency, accountability and disclosure requirements that have been introduced for
• the consequences of inappropriate fundraising, including director and officer liability.
The Do’s and Don’ts of Charitable Receipting (3 hours)
Did you know that 89% of registered charities were found to be improperly issuing official donation receipts when audited by CRA? Join charity lawyer Richard Bridge as he discusses charitable receipting and how to make sure that your charitable status is not jeopardized.
Following the session, you will be able to answer these questions and many more:
• when is your charity allowed to issue official donation receipts and for how much?
• what is split receipting and how does it affect your galas, golf tournaments and other fundraisers?
• what are the top receipting mistakes and abuses and how do you avoid them?
Bring your questions! We’ll set aside time so Richard can address your questions related to the Fundraising Guidance, receipting or other charity issues.
Both of these workshops are appropriate for CEOs, directors, staff, and volunteers of Canadian registered charities that are involved with either fundraising, issuing donation receipts or governance.

This workshop will take a hands on approach to design aspects of a Regional Active Transportation Plan.
A Regional Active Transportation Plan for the Greater Charlottetown Area is currently being developed. Following an RFP (issued by the City of Charlottetown, Town of Stratford and Town of Cornwall in June 2011) a contract has been awarded to the IBI Group, who submitted their proposal
is Association with Jaques Whitford. In August the consultants toured the three Municipalities to see, experience and observe firsts hand how we connect with our City’s Activity hubs on bikes, feet and other means of mobility. They will be hosting a series of public consultation events in
September & the workshop on Friday September 30th is one opportunity to engage community members in a focused discussion about how this plan can take shape. The plan will involve developing initial vision and goals, Identifying major activity hubs and reviewing current and planned regional and local routes.
Dialogue and activities will form around the following questions:
1) What are the main regionally significant activity centres or hubs (i.e., community centres, attractions, shopping districts / centres, etc.) in Greater Charlottetown that need to be connected by walking and cycling?
2) What are the key existing links connecting these activity centres / hubs?
3) What barriers currently exist for active transportation to/from these activity centres / hubs?
4) What actions/improvements could be taken to improve connections?

8. Sisters in Spirit Vigil
When: October 4th, 6 to 8PM
Where: Meeting at Peakes Quay, Charlottetown- Memorial walk to Province House.
The purpose of this Vigil is to remember and raise public awareness about our missing and murdered Aboriginal Women with a goal of one day, ending the violence against all women. The Aboriginal Women’s Association of PEI, in conjunction with the Native Women’s Association of Canada is pleased to announce the 6th annual Sister’s in Spirit Vigil. Each year, concerned citizens and Aboriginal community members gather nationally on Oct 4th to honor the lives of the murdered and missing Aboriginal Women in Canada.
As for PEI, we will be gathering at Peakes Quay, Charlottetown, where we will begin our walk to Province House. The Sisters in Spirit Vigil will proceed with our speakers, including AWAPEI President Judy Clark, who will deliver a brief address to the public. There will be traditional performances of singing and dancing. The Sisters in Spirit Vigil will conclude with refreshments. The Aboriginal Women’s Association of PEI, as well as our supporting partners; Native Council of PEI, Mi’kmaq Family PRIDE Program (Mi’kmaq Confederacy of PEI), Abegweit Wellness Centre, Chief Mary Bernard Memorial Women’s Shelter, PEI Inter-ministerial Women’s Secretariat and PEI Advisory of the Status of Women, are proud to show our support and are committed to raising awareness to our “Stolen Sisters” and to “Stop the Violence” in Prince Edward Island.

9. Internal Fraud Prevention Forum – October 6

PEIBWA Fundraiser and Fun
PEI Business Women’s Association is excited this year’s Annual Fundraiser is The Business of Murder . The net proceeds from this event will go towards the association’s operating costs. Equally as important as raising money for the association, this will be spooktacular fellowship event for all. Please invite significant others and friends; everyone is welcome.
