2.  Bouffe—A Musical Culinary Comedy

The PEI Food Security Network presents the play ‘Bouffe’ at the Carrefour de L’Ile St. Jean ( François Buote School) on Friday, May 6th at 8pm. Bouffe is a colourful, hilarious, bilingual production of the Tintemarre Theatre Troupe from Mt. Allison University, that explores many social and culinary issues such as food security and eating locally, with eccentric costumes, priceless facial expressions and spontaneous inserts of troubling food facts.

The play is set in a fast-food franchise called ‘Mister Bouffe’, where foods are rated on ‘the calorie machine’ of sugar, salt, and fat. The plot is guided along by the janitor, who comments on issues such as monoculture, incomes of farmers, and the pervasiveness of television marketing. He gets help from such outlandish characters as an Italian broccoli, a southern avocado, Chinese garlic, and a local turnip.
Admission is by donation. A short discussion will follow the performance. For more information, please contact the PEI Food Security Network by calling 894-4573, or look up our website – peifoodsecurity.wordpress.com.
