1.  Workshop and Curriculum Fair – Homeschooling

Parents interested in learning more about homeschooling are invited to a workshop and curriculum fair hosted by home educators on PEI on Saturday, June 12, from 9AM to 2:30PM. The event takes place at the Charlottetown Christian Reformed Church, 155 Mount Edward Road. Admission is by donation to defray hall rental.

Registration starts at 9AM, the sessions start at 9:15 and topics include provincial regulations and getting started tips.

There will also be new curriculum for sale and a used book/curriculum sale. Refreshments will be served.

PEI’s homeschooling community is small, but diverse and inclusive! Come find out more and have your questions answered about one of the most important decisions you can make regarding your family.

3.  Imagine Canada – Community Conversation on PEI – June 3

Hello all,

UPEI is hosting a community conversation next Thursday, about “Building a Collective Action Plan for the Charitable and Nonprofit Sector in Canada. The date/time is June 3 – 8:30-10:30 am and will be held on the UPEI campus in the Bill and Denise Andrew Hall, conference room on first floor.

This event is being sponsored by Imagine Canada. They hope to have a large representation of non-profit and voluntary sector on PEI.

The World Elder Abuse Awareness Day committee and the PEI Seniors’ Secretariat invite all Islanders to attend a free public event on the rights of older persons on Tuesday June 15, 10:00am to 12:00noon at St. Eleanors Community Centre.

Call for Nominations: PEI Senior Islanders of the Year Award
The PEI Seniors’ Secretariat invites Islanders to celebrate the many contributions of older adults by nominating a community member as a PEI Senior Islander of the Year. This award will be presented on October 1 and is intended to recognize contributions in many areas including: career achievements, fund-raising, community activities, education, fitness/recreation and artistic achievement. 1. PEI Citizen Advocacy’s Move-a-thon coming up!

Hi Everyone,

Enjoy yourself and walk or move a gentle one kilometre down by the river and through the woods!

PEI Citizen Advocacy is holding its fundraiser Move-a-thon on Saturday, June 12th at 2 pm in the Robert Cotton Park in Stratford. There will be food and drinks , musical entertainment and door prizes.

4. New Exhibition

The Acadian Museum of PEI, in Miscouche, has just openend a new exhibition entitled, Hooked Rugs by Island Acadians: Keeping the Tradition Alive”.

It features over 60 hooked rugs by 21 Acadian artisans from across the Island. These wonderful rugs, a kaleidoscope of colours and designs, are truly a feast for the eyes!

5. Transformational Journal Writing Workshop

Kindred Spirits: Relationships that Spark the Soul (non-fiction) and Long Reach Home (poetry)

This workshop will help you write new material in your own true voice, in a lively way that will keep you writing long after you go home. You will be given tools to develop your writing voice, whether or not you already keep a journal. Workshop participants will also explore ways to transform their new or old journal entries into other forms of writing of their choice such as: memoir, poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and/or plays. Participants will have the opportunity to read their writing for group feedback, using agreed-upon guidelines. Registration fee is $300 for the 30 hours.
