Welcome

The Prince Edward Island Advisory Council on the Status of Women is starting a blog, as an experiment.

We hope the blog will provide a better way to share information about our work and to receive input from the wider community on issues of concern to women, girls, and their families in Prince Edward Island. We hope the blog will connect us in a new and more open way with wider dialogues about issues on Prince Edward Island.

We also hope the blog will be a useful tool in gathering ideas and analysis to support a new initiative, an Equality Report Card to assess government’s progress towards women’s equality and diversity goals.

Expect posts in categories such as these:

  • Did You Know? (quick facts and stats)
  • First-Takes (first responses to issues of the day)
  • Purple Ribbon (news about the annual anti-violence campaign)
  • Community Notices (posted every Friday for the upcoming week)
  • News & Views (press releases and letters to the editor from the PEIACSW)
  • Now Available (publications from the PEIACSW)
  • Flashbacks (profiles of past work by the PEIACSW)
  • Features (articles, investigations, explorations, ideas)
  • Quick Pics (visuals)

. . . and tags related to the areas of priority interest in the Equality Report Card, such as these:

  • Making Equality a Priority
  • Women in Decision-Making
  • Family Violence Prevention
  • Women’s Economic Status
  • Supports for Caregiving
  • Women’s Health
  • Access to Justice
  • Collaborating for Equality
  • Supporting Diversity and Inclusion
  • General Gender Issues for Women
  • General Gender Issues for Men

As noted in our Profile section, opinions expressed on this blog are not necessarily those of the Council Chairperson or individual Council Members or Staff. They do not necessarily reflect the final policy views or recommendations of the Council. Rather, the ideas and comments are meant to reflect evolving and emerging thinking on issues of importance to Prince Edward Island women, girls, and families. We reserve the right to explore ideas, to make mistakes, and to learn and refine perspectives through interacting with readers.

Other business . . .

The ACSW blog is being launched by Council staff on a trial basis. Council members will be asked to assess and evaluate staff and Council staff-time investment as well as blog contents, comments, and early effects at the next Council meeting, November 26, 2007.

Council will decide whether or not to continue the blog at the January 2008 meeting, but the blog can be cancelled and deleted at any time at the direction of Council. Blog policies can be changed with the approval of a majority of Council members at any time.

  4. Great idea!
If I may suggest starting a Facebook Group as well. It’s great way to extend your readership. Facebook allows friend lists to be notified when a new blog post appears.
Good luck, let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
